West Coast Tidepools is a very much ~ in progress ~ website dedicated to marine biology education in the San Diego area.
West Coast Tidepools is different than other online marine biology educational resources because it focuses on visual engagement and in-depth education. I’m building the website I desperately wanted as a young girl who needed to learn everything about the ocean!
The most assembled piece of WCT currently is the Tidepool Identification, which has pictures and species of commonly found tidepool creatures in San Diego!
Click the starfish to explore westcoasttidepools.org

Eventually, the site will include:
- Species identification descriptions
- Educational pages describing marine biology and anatomy of different organisms (check out Anemones!)
- The information in these pages will increase in complexity as you continue to scroll, to optimize comprehension and peak interests by presenting foundational concepts first and progressively building toward more advanced material.
- Local tidepool locations and descriptions
- Oceanography information about local tides
- A submission page so that people can submit their San Diego tidepool pics to help expand the identification pages.
